5.5 Conclusion
Equity indices play a central role in the financial system — for both investors and for companies. They provide guidance, transparency and comparability in a complex market environment. With its broad index offering, SIX provides a solid infrastructure that covers the entire spectrum of the Swiss equity and other markets: from the comprehensive SPI to the internationally significant SMI and specialized indices such as the SPI ESG.
For listed companies, inclusion in an index means greater visibility, increased liquidity and often also access to new investor circles, especially from the passive investment area. At the same time, SIX offers numerous tools to support issuers with index membership and communication, such as product overviews and newsletters.
Knowledge of the functioning and structure of the SIX indices helps companies to better position themselves strategically in the capital market. However, it also helps investors to make well-founded and understandable investment decisions.
