10.6 Focusing on Opportunities
Recently, the main focus in the area of sustainable finance has been on meeting extensive regulatory and transparency requirements. It is clear that the implementation of these measures is initially costly and challenging. However, what is often overlooked is the advantage of a strategy designed around sustainability. The goal of these measures is not to create unnecessary reports, but to make risks transparent and prevent them. Those who avoid so-called stranded assets in their portfolios today (be it buildings that cannot be renovated at a reasonable cost, or energy infrastructure that is not renewables-oriented and will have to be decommissioned eventually due to national climate goals) will benefit from this in the medium to long term. Moreover, those who actively invest in or finance business models that will become standard in the future will also unlock new opportunities. The demanded transparency thus lays the foundation for a future-proof business model across all sectors.
